The Burden of Foodborne Diseases in Tanzania: An Urgent Call for Improved Food Safety Inspections

Foodborne diseases (FBD) are a significant public health issue worldwide, with Africa facing an especially high burden. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Africa reports approximately 135 million cases of foodborne diseases annually, resulting in around 180,000 deaths. As a part of this regional crisis, Tanzania struggles with the severe impacts of foodborne diseases, largely due to inadequate food safety practices and inspection systems.
